Real Madrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo has won the best FIFA Men’s Player Award for 2016, beating Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann. Cristiano Ronaldo missed out on the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2015 to Lionel Messi this time last year and many predicted that he would not be back at the Ceremony ever again, but how he proved them wrong.
2016 was a fantastic year for Crisitano Ronaldo who won the Champions League with Real Madrid and Euro 2016 with Portugal. He also claimed the France Football Ballon d’Or award as Zinedine Zidane’s men ended the year by bringing home the Club World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted he would have liked to see his Barcelona adversaries in the audience as he lifted the 2016 FIFA Best Player award. There were few surprises at the ceremony in Zurich as Ronaldo added the crown to the Ballon d’Or he was awarded back in December 2016.
After received the award Ronaldo said: “I would like thank very all those that voted for me, the fans, the captains and the media. Thank you. It is incredible, it is not the first time but it is the first of this. First and foremost I have to thank my team-mates of Real Madrid and Real Madrid coach. Thank you for everything you have done for me. I have also got to thank my family, my brothers, my mum, my whole staff Hundred per cent for everything they have given me”.
Ronaldo added: ” I do not really have anything to add, awards speak for themselves. I am really happy. This achievement is incredible on a personal levell.. Unbelievable, I will never forget this year. I am very happy. Thank you everyone, I do not really have anything else to add. I think The awards speaks for itself. I am just very happy. I’ am sorry some people from Barcelona are not here, but that is understandable. The 2016 was the best year of my career. I had a lot of doubts but at the end I think the trophies speak for themselves.”
