The Egyptian national coach Hector Cuper has revealed he voted for Lionel Messi as the FIFA Player of the Year, as he feels Cristiano Ronaldo’s performances for 2016 do not merit the award. The Barcelona star finished 2016 as the year’s top scorer with 51 goals with 51 games as he helped his Barcelona team to their second successive Liga and Copa del Rey double.
Meanwhile, Cristino Ronaldo got his hands on the Champions League trophy for Real Madrid and led Portugal to their first-ever international trophy with Euro 2016 success. However, Ronaldo was not a decisive presence in either final, and Hector Cuper believes that Lionel Messi’s superior displays mean he deserves FIFA Player of the Year.
The current Egyptian National coach Hector Cuper told Goal:” Lionel Messi is the best player I saw in the last year, we are speaking about the whole performance. Leo gave everything to lead Barcelona to the domestic double. That is also appled for Argentina where he did everything possible to win the Copa America, but he was not lucky.”
Hector Cuper also speakes Ronaldo Titles and his performance: ” Cristiano Ronaldo also won titles, but I do not think his performances were good enough to be the player of the year.Performance would not be in his favour, it is just the titles that would help him to be in the nominations. You can say I chose Lionel Messi for several reasons, not just because he is Argentine.”
